I dare you to try not to love this video above, White Lung is coming from vancouver to kick our asses. Scope this mid week show to see one of the most exciting new bands in Canada. This is gonna be a true rager not to be missed with this incidentally all female fronted line up.
Aug 26th at the Wunderbar, 90’s Underground legends THE ARTIFACTS come to Edmonton with Halifax’s Ghettosocks!
The Artifacts were well known back in the day for their dedication to four aspects of Hip Hop, frequently rapping B-Boying and Graffiti. Since breaking up in 1997, members Tame One and El Da Sensei have pursued solo careers including Tame One joining the legendary alternative hip hop group The Weathermen (which included some of the biggest names in the new wave of hip like Aesop Rock, Cage Kennylz, Camu Tao, and El-P). During a performance by El Da Sensei at the Rock Steady CrewAnniversary Weekend in Newark, New Jersey, Artifacts briefly reunited, which has since spawned into a tour which we are lucky enough to have stop in Edmonton.
Coming with them is my favorite Canadian rapper Ghettosocks, I have been lucky enough to book him two times in the past, and I can only assume this will be no change in the trend of him putting on show stopping performances. I can’t wait for this show! I am gonna be stoked all summer for this! Don’t miss it!!
The Golers, Deadhead Catastrophe, Terrorfist and Kanker will be melting your face this Friday at the DV8. This will be long time crust/grind locals Deahead Catastrophe’s final show! Consider if you will, DHC has been around for 8 or so years, these are fully dedicated grinders who have been ripping it up inEdmonton as long as just about anyone. I remember seeing them at the old shark tank many years ago, they had duel vocalist back then, but aside from their departure the core three members have remained, and replaced the clumsy two vocal’d street punk sound with a superior three vocal grindcore attack, this band fucking rips- don’t miss your last chance to see them!
Also headlining this show is Unrest Records recording artist The Golers from Vancouver. They have been playing aggressive thrash metal since the late 90s and fully intend on kicking your ass. Opening this event are local old school ‘Deathmatalists’ Terrorfist and Kanker!
Booze Cruise are melodic skate punk Yellowknife, time to party like it’s ’01! I am pumped to see this band as this is the sort of band I would see every weekend growing up (old school locals like Pressure Point, The Johnsons, Daryl’s Grocery Bag, Deville, and, Filmmaker) and dude, those shows were huge. These bands had big followings, serious work ethics and their eyes on the prize. Booze Cruise are really good at playing this style, they are slick, fast and fun as hell.
For CUYA it’s also it is one more band closer to having booked bands from every province and territory. I have crossed almost all of them off my list, for instance BC (Evan Symons, Twin Crystals, Osk, Modern Creatures, Unlearn, etc, etc, etc), Alberta (just about every punk band worth their snuff), Sask (Rehashed, Old Problems, Good Things, Etc) Manitoba (Unwanted, Wolbachia, Still Birth, Still Fighting, Etc), Ontario (Constraints, Rough Sea, Etc), Quebec (Vile Intent, Barnburner, Etc), New Brunswick (Rusted Dawn, Etc), Nova Scotia (Cop Shades, Etc), NFL (Class War Kids, Etc). Now the Territories have been trickier, Booze Cruise will be the first (I think, I could have forgotten a band or two) and I would like to finish this up, so you Yukon grindcore bands and Nunavut crusties holler at me!
