these are some pictures from Oh Messy Life’s last show at New City on May 25. I was a crazy show, I am glad they got to go out with a band. Easily one of my favorite locals, a band I never got tired of seeing. Photos by Shirley Tse
JULY 7TH, NEW CITY, EVERYONE EVERYWHERE, GREATER THAN GIANTS and More
So, summer is here, and with that comes a revaluation of priorities for us Albertans. Staying indoors is no longer a matter of survival, we can appreciate the form of our peers now unhampered by thick warm clothing and life just becomes easier. Everyone deals with this is a different ways, some make positive healthy choices, others suddenly unburdened by having to keep warm go into self destructive spirals. One thing that happens to me is pop punk becomes a lot more appealing. Not everyone enjoys pop punk, or will admit to it, but a lot of people are self important assholes. That’s why I’m stoked that BC party animals Everyone Everywhere is coming back to Edmonton. This will be the third time I have done a show for these dudes, and every time it’s a rager. This will be a fun show, with a mix of genres. Get stoked. Here is a download for Everyone Everywhere album “The Rookie”
Booze Cruise are melodic skate punk Yellowknife, time to party like it’s ’01! I am pumped to see this band as this is the sort of band I would see every weekend growing up (old school locals like Pressure Point, The Johnsons, Daryl’s Grocery Bag, Deville, and, Filmmaker) and dude, those shows were huge. These bands had big followings, serious work ethics and their eyes on the prize. Booze Cruise are really good at playing this style, they are slick, fast and fun as hell.
For CUYA it’s also it is one more band closer to having booked bands from every province and territory. I have crossed almost all of them off my list, for instance BC (Evan Symons, Twin Crystals, Osk, Modern Creatures, Unlearn, etc, etc, etc), Alberta (just about every punk band worth their snuff), Sask (Rehashed, Old Problems, Good Things, Etc) Manitoba (Unwanted, Wolbachia, Still Birth, Still Fighting, Etc), Ontario (Constraints, Rough Sea, Etc), Quebec (Vile Intent, Barnburner, Etc), New Brunswick (Rusted Dawn, Etc), Nova Scotia (Cop Shades, Etc), NFL (Class War Kids, Etc). Now the Territories have been trickier, Booze Cruise will be the first (I think, I could have forgotten a band or two) and I would like to finish this up, so you Yukon grindcore bands and Nunavut crusties holler at me!
